A Reminder of What We’ve Confirmed
A summary of logical conclusions from the last sermon:
1. The existence of an intelligent designer cannot be logically denied.
2. The impossible odds relating to the accuracy of prophetic scripture – ONLY accomplished in the Bible cannot be logically denied.

2. The impossible odds relating to the accuracy of prophetic scripture – ONLY accomplished in the Bible cannot be logically denied.
3. The sanctity of scripture has been validated to include extra-biblical accounts of Bible history and Christ – therefore it cannot be denied.
4. Because there is an intelligent designer and the Bible has proven to be true through prophesy and historicity, the God of the Bible cannot be denied.
5. If scripture is the Word of God, its authority cannot be logically denied.
4) Because of the authority of Scripture, God cannot be separated from it.
THEREFORE, God is who He says He is.

THEREFORE, God is who He says He is.
Now that we know God is who He says He is – let’s find out more about how the Bible, science, and history confirms monotheism.
Why Start With the Basics?
Christians struggle with the concept of the Trinity:
72% believe God is the basis of all truth (37% of mainline protestants)
74% believe the Bible is the Word of God (37% of mainline protestants)
43% believe Jesus was a man who sinned (59% of mainline protestants)
58% reject the Holy Spirit as a person of God (73% of mainline protestants

What are These “Isms”?
Monotheism = a belief in one God.
Deism = a belief in one god, but only revealed naturally – not personal or involved in creation.
Henotheism = worship of one god, but acknowledgment of other gods
Polytheism = a belief in many gods
Pantheism = a belief that the universe is one with god, not personal
Panentheism = a belief that the universe is one with god, and personal
Animism = all things have a distinct spiritual agency; without evidence, most commonly stated as the origins of religion in ancient cultures

The Biblical Case for Monotheism
An understanding of monotheism is critical for understanding the Trinity.

Attacks on Monotheism
A sample of arguments using “science”:
Atheistic anthropology often suggests that monotheism and trinitarianism spawned from polytheistic cultures.
The concept that animism was the source “religion” for all cultures is not proven by any scientific means.
Archaeological evidence actually points to the opposite. It has produced evidence through pictographs, hieroglyphics, cuneiform, runic writings, and ruins that prove otherwise.

NOTE: Remember that the historicity of the Bible is unparalleled. This is why atheists have found it necessary to obfuscate the “science”.
A sample of arguments using “history”:
Attack: Ancient Christianity borrowed its religions from other polytheistic cultures. Moses borrowed and summarized the 10 Commandments from the 42 Laws of Maat (The Negative Confessions) during Egyptian enslavement.

Answer: The 42 “laws” of Maat were transcribed in the Papyrus of Ani in ~1250 BC…nearly 200 yrs after the Israelites had fled Egypt and the 10 Commandments authored. The older Kemet coffin texts or funerary papyri are often noted to depict the administration of these same 42 “laws”, yet there is no evidence of these exact laws displayed in any of these inscriptions.
Attack: Many anthropologists and cults reference the Egyptian gods of Osiris / Asar (father), Isis / Aset (mother), and Horus / Heru (son) as a “Kemetic trinity” and a clear reference to a trinitarian god. Given the dating, the trinity was a stolen concept.
Answer: There is absolutely no evidence to support that anyone in the time of the ancient carvings, paintings, or inscriptions referred to them as a trinity of any kind. In fact, the oldest references of the Myth of Osiris within the Pyramid Texts not only do not reference any 3-in-1 trinity, but they reference many other gods. They are simply put to relation as father, mother, and son and wrapped in the Myth of Osiris (which bears zero resemblance of the Trinity).
NOTE: Remember that the historicity of the Bible is unmatched. This is why atheists attempt to rewrite and bury or burn it.
A sample of arguments using scripture:
Attack: 1 Cor 8:5 acknowledges that there are “many gods”.

Attack: 1 Cor 8:5 acknowledges that there are “many gods”.
Answer: In context, vs 4 states “…we know that ‘an idol has no real existence,’ and that ‘there is no God but one.’” Moreover, the beginning of vs 5 states “For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth.” Paul is clearly referring to pagans who claim other idols to be gods.
Attack: In John 10:34-35 Jesus answers the Pharisees who are about to stone him by quoting Psalm 82:6 stating, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came – and Scripture cannot be broken – do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?”
Answer: The word “elohim” (אֱלהִים) is used here. While this reference is often used for God, it is also used to describe judges and supernatural beings. In context, Psalm 82 is about unjust judges and in this verse, while God has named them judges (or Elohim - placed them into authority), they will die like men.
NOTE: Remember that the Bible never contradicts itself. This is why Satan uses it to confuse us – he even attempted to use it against Christ in the desert.
