Joy Full week 3 - Living for Christ: Purpose, Focus, and Unity - Philippians 1:19-28

Joy Full week 3 - Living for Christ: Purpose, Focus, and Unity - Philippians 1:19-28

Despite his imprisonment, Paul’s unwavering joy and commitment led him to write his famous declaration, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Understanding what this means enables us to see what it is to honor Christ with our lives and bodies. Paul uses his own life’s purpose to call the Philippian church — and those of us in the Christian church today — to stand together in striving for a focused unity and purpose in our faith.

Christ must be honored in our bodies.
To live is Christ:
- in the flesh
- fruitful labor
- more needed
- progress and joy in faith of Philippians
To die is gain:
- Paul’s desire
- the better option
- be with Christ
How do I honor Jesus with my body?

Be ready to live for Him in life or
be with Him in the afterlife.

We honor Him as
we live for His purposes.
When you partner with God and are committed to His purpose for your life, you are guaranteed success.
Paul’s labors so the Philippians might:

1. Trust Jesus more
2. Enjoy trusting Jesus more
3. Worship Jesus more
"Let your manner of life be" - one word, politeuomai, in the original Greek

If you’re in Christ, your citizenship goes far beyond the city you’re from. Your identity goes beyond where you live and now becomes attached to the One who gave it all to bring you salvation. So life your life in a way (honor Jesus with your body in such a way) that’s worthy of the gift of salvation you’ve received through Christ Jesus.
Standing firm in one spirit . . .
Like a tree that takes root and holds firm in the midst of stormy weather, we are to be steadfast in trusting Jesus together so that nothing would knock us down.

Striving side-by-side for the sake of the gospel . . .
When you get a group of people with a clear purpose, a strong sense of focus, and a unified spirit they can accomplish incredible things. That’s why we stand firm together, striving for the faith.

Not frightened by anything in their opponents . . .
Paul desires that through their togetherness they would be emboldened by their faith that God is mightier than their enemies.
