What really makes for a happy life?
If you’re always hungry for the next big thing, but frustrated because it never seems to satisfy, you just might be Chasing Carrots.
Chasing Carrots: The Endless Pursuit of the Fleeting
Fleeting: Lasting for a very short time.

Chasing Carrots Wk#1: Perfectionism

“When perfectionism is driving us, shame is riding shotgun and fear is the annoying backseat driver.” Brene Brown
Three Types of Perfectionist:

1. Self-oriented perfectionist:
-You hold unrealistically high expectations of yourself and battle
with feelings of guilt, often obsessing to the point of inefficiency.
-You are prone to procrastinate.
-You struggle with deep feelings of inadequacy.

2.Externally-oriented perfectionist:-You believe others expect you to be perfect.
-To cope with the pressure, you often use self-deprecating humor
as a defense.
-You often feel alone, depressed and desperate because you
know you will never be enough.

3.Others-oriented perfectionist:-You expect others to live up to your impossible standards.
-You tend to lack empathy.
-You often tear others down or use abrasive and demeaning humor toward those who don’t meet your standards.
The Root of Perfectionism is spiritual not psychological.

Perfectionism is a mask for insecurity!
Adam and Eve; Leaves!
Moses; Veil
On your own, you cannot be perfect enough for God!

How are we made perfect?
Perfectionism is all about “What we do”....It’s all about me
-If I obey.....God will love me
-If I make every right decision I will earn God’s approval

Grace is all about what Jesus has done. It’s all about Jesus
-Because God loves me He empowers me to obey
-I live life from the place of God’s approval not for God’s Approval
Grace takes the pressure off!

When the pressure is off we can:
1. Choose people over perfection.
Luke 10:41-42 (ESV)“But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.””

2. Choose perfect love over perfect performance.
Perfectionism is a covering for your deepest fears.

Choose LOVE over PERFORMANCE
Perfect not in Behavior or Performance, but in Love!

Perfect (Greek:Telios): Doesn’t mean to be without sin!
Telios: Perfectly Mature, Complete.

Be perfect: Fulfill your perfect purpose!
Jesus on the Cross said “Tetelestai”: It is Finished

We are complete in Him when we strive to walk in our perfect purpose of Loving God & Loving People.
