Sermon 7/21/24

Locations & Times

Beacon Hill Church - Main Campus (English)

Sunday 9:00 AM

After finishing his teaching, Jesus turns to Peter and tells him to launch out from the shore into the deep and let down their nets for a catch.

IN VERSE 5 PETER RAISES THIS OBJECTION:
“Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.(NIV)

It is often at the time of our greatest STRESS and FATIGUE that the LORD ALWAYS PRESENTS US WITH A FRESH CHALLENGE.

Although their flesh did not want to go, Peter says: nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net (NKJV) or But because you say so, I will let down the nets. (NIV)

They had listened to Him teach, and his WORDS HAD STIRRED THEM like the words of no other.

· They had seen miracles wrought SIMPLY AT HIS WORD - HIS SAY SO

· So, now, against all common sense they will launch out into the deep, simply because Jesus spoke the word.

They were all astonished at the miracle of the catch, but even more than the great catch, they were astonished at this revelation of Jesus’ power over the natural realm.

Peter’s reaction is reflective of the words of the prophet Isaiah when faced with the realization of his own sinfulness.
WE MUST MOVE BEYOND OUR OWN FEAR IN THE REALM OF FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD

Previously the four had gone out fishing in their own strength and abilities. Their own strength and abilities failed them. Now, they went out at the Word of Jesus and look at what happened!

From now on they would leave their fishing nets by the shore to follow Christ in a much greater mission to “catch men”.
· So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (NIV)

Sometimes, we hang around the shoreline of following Jesus.

We stick our toe in the water by attending church occasionally; but we never plunge in completely. We never surrender our ALL TO CHRIST

WHAT IS HOLDING YOU BACK FROM LAUNCHING INTO THE DEEP?

FROM GOING “ALL IN” FOR CHRIST?

Fear of the unknown? Fear of giving up control? Independence? Pride?

Remember, whose arms you are plunging into and whose voice you are following.

Jesus comes and calls each of us to a fuller and more complete commitment of ourselves to Him.
