RockPointe Survey Results from April 2024
------------
How often do you serve as a volunteer at RockPointe?
- 59% said I do not currently serve.
- 8% said only once a year

Executive Summary: Many people seem to express a current hesitancy, unwillingness, or difficulty in pursuing opportunities for service. There appears to be a sense of individualism within the congregation and is currently missing the joy that Christ calls the church to experience through connection together.
Are you missing the joy and fulfillment in Christ because you are not serving?
Why should we serve?
------------

1. To Follow Christ’s Example
Mark 10:43-45 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

2. To Use Our Gifts
1 Peter 4:10-11 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."

3. To Build Up the Church
Ephesians 4:11-12 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up..."

4. To Grow Spiritually
Matthew 23:12 The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

5. To Transmit Faith to the Next Generation
Deuteronomy 6:4-7 Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Self-Righteous Service
------------
1. Needs to be seen
2. Needs to be rewarded
3. Needs to be appeased

Self-righteous service ultimately fractures community.
How we should serve:
------------

1. Motivated by Obedience
Deuteronomy 13:4 It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

2. Motivated by Gratitude
1 Samuel 12:24 But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.

3. Motivated by Gladness
Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness.

4. Motivated by Forgiveness
Isaiah 6:6-8 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

5. Motivated by Humility
John 13:12-15 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.

6. Motivated by Love
Galatians 5:13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
The Need:
------------

1. The Threat of Losing Souls
- 40-50% of youth group graduates drift from God (over one million per year).
- The next generation is twice as likely to say they’ve been hurt by the church than say they trust the church.

Two keys factors needed to cultivating trust:
Closeness - relational proximity.
Consistency - relational longevity.

Intergenerational relationships provide opportunities to rebuild trust through:
- Wisdom & Guidance
- Role Modeling
- Support & Encouragement

2. The Growth in Number of Souls
- Over 700 first time families per year
- Moving and multiplying groups to accommodate growth

What current volunteers say about serving in Next Gen ministry:
------------

- I have volunteered with middle and high school students for over 20 years and can attest our students are hungry and in need to spend more time around men and women of the faith.

- Ideas have consequences, bad ideas have victims. Kids are awash in bad ideas 90% of their waking hours. Christ is the truth and Christians are the delivery method. Let's get moving!

- A lot of people think serving with the Next Gen is scary. They feel like they’re either too old or not “cool” enough and they wouldn’t know what to do or say so they just don’t engage. Can I tell you something? The kids don’t care! They just know whether or not you’re interested in being with them. I honestly don’t know who is more blessed by time spent…me or them.

- If you are not serving in next gen, man you are missing out! It might seem a little scary or daunting at first to work with kids or students, but you will be all in before you even realize what happened. And you will be forever changed because of it.
