Like no Other (Sermon on the Mount) (5)

Jesus is without a doubt like no other, and the Sermon on the Mount proves that. In this series, let's examine the teaching in Matthew Chapters 5-7.

"Divorce" is A modern English word without a direct single-word equivalent in the Biblical Hebrew language describing the end of a marriage.

"Put Away" is The physical removal of someone. In the context of divorce, this would be of the spouse, usually the wife, and in a public way. Some English translations of the Bible incorrectly translate the term "put away" as "divorce."
Hebrew: "SHALACH" or "GARASH" | Greek: "apoluó"

"Bill of Divorcement" is a formal written certificate confirming the legal end of a marriage contract ("GET"), releasing a woman from her husband's ownership. It includes the amount agreed upon in advance, as written in the Ketubah, due to the woman in the event of a divorce. This is the closest term to modern English "divorce."
Hebrew: "SEFER KERITUT" | Greek: "apostasion" )
Many Israelite women who were 'put away' by their husbands without a bill of divorce and became Agunah managed to find shelter with another man, which sometimes was a life-saving solution for them. However, since their previous marriages had not legally and formally ended, they were not considered divorced according to the Law and, therefore, were regarded as adulteresses if they married another man. Without the bill of divorce, they were not legally divorced but still married to their first husbands.

Beware of the temptation to seek attention for yourself, as this is a worldly desire. The flesh longs for recognition. "Look at me. Look at how good I am." Self-righteousness is the most destructive sin, as it puffs up our pride and distances us from God's grace.
It's a mistake to misinterpret this verse and assume that God blesses us based on our good deeds. "Do good, get good." That is the old covenant. Under the old covenant, you were blessed if you did good and cursed if you didn’t. It was a system of rewards and consequences, where good deeds were done in the hope of being blessed or rewarded by God.
All of God's blessings are freely available to us through grace (Eph. 1:3).
"I used to pray that God would feed the hungry or do this or that, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I'm supposed to do, what I can do. I used to pray for answers, but now I'm praying for strength. I used to believe that prayer changes things, but now I know that prayer changes us, and we change things." Mother Teresa

We must be careful not to replace action with prayer. Jesus took time to pray but never allowed prayer to keep Him from doing action. Let me pray about that, and I will get back to you. There is tons of stuff we don't have to pray about.

Our Father. When you pray, you are not just praying to the Almighty Creator and the Ancient of Days. You are praying to our heavenly Father, who cares for you and knows your needs (Matt. 6:31–32). Abba Father is the name of God who loves you as much as he loves Jesus (see John 17:23).

Jesus refers to God as His "Father" more than 130 times and "Our Father" more than 30 times. God initiated the ingenious design of the family unit and assumed the position of becoming the Father of the human family. This is His final cure for the displaced, misplaced, and disenfranchised. He miraculously provides companionship for the orphan, the unwanted, and the outcast.

What is the Kingdom?
Romans 14:17-For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Give Us Our Daily Bread
"This imperative indicates a close relationship or connection."
John 15:4-5-4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.

Forgive Us Our Debts As We Forgive…
This statement demonstrates the powerful impact of forgiving from a place of true forgiveness.

Lead Us Not Into Temptation…
James 1:13 - God doesn't tempt us with sin.
The original word for temptation (peirasmos) means a trial or test, which is how the word is translated elsewhere. "Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials" (Jas. 1:2). The trials of life test our faith (Jas. 1:3). When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, it was a kind of trial. Trials like this are not to be feared. They are an occasion for rejoicing because they reveal the golden qualities of our God-given faith.

In context, Jesus is saying, "Father, do not lead us into trouble but lead us out of trouble." Just as you can trust God to provide your daily bread, you can trust God to deliver you from all kinds of evil. "The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation (trials)" (2 Pet. 2:9).

Trials or affliction…if possible.
