The Text in Context, Part 1

"In other words, Acts 8:14-17 is probably an invitation to cross-cultural discipleship models. Considering the long history of hostility between Jews and Samaritans, the delay of the Holy Spirit is indeed a literary device meant to summon believers to recognize the role of the Spirit in opening worship doors to..."  Click link to read more.

3. Accept God's forgiveness.

4. Go evangelize.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. What's one thing in this weekend's message that you connected with? Why? What's one thing in this weekend's message that you didn't connect with? Why?

2. In Acts 8:14-17, Peter and John lay hands on the Samaritans and they receive the Holy Spirit. Throughout the book of Acts, though, the message is clear: We don't control the Holy Spirit. In what ways have you seen Christians try to control the Holy Spirit?

3. Simon the sorcerer's attempt to purchase the ability to impart the Holy Spirit is rebuked by Peter. How does this event highlight the importance of spiritual discernment and the dangers of improper motives in seeking greatness?

4. What is "greatness" in the church?

5. How do you define "Evangelize?"

6. How can you spread the good news of Jesus' resurrection, just like Peter and John and Philip were doing in Samaria?
