Numbers 12
Our human condition of selfishness casts a racial slur
Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.

Zipporah = Moses Midianite wife, either of Cushite descent = Ethiopia
Racism: Surface Evidence of an Evil Heart Condition
A racial slur for character assassination reveals our deeper sin issue
Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?”.

The True Heart Condition Exposed: rejection of God’s Word/Authority
“Listen to my words:…my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. 8 With him I speak face to face, Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”
God’s corrective action is His judgment for sin and provision of healing grace
…Miriam’s skin was leprous—it became as white as snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease, and he said to Moses, “Please, my lord, I ask you not to hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed… So Moses cried out to the Lord, “Please, God, heal her!”
All the Irony:
-Miriam’s racial slur about dark skin brings whitening skin disease judgment
-Miriam’s attempt to shame/ socially exclude Zapporah, brings her shame/exclusion
-Miriam’s salvation from slavery offers no grace to Zapporah or humility to Moses
-Aaron conspires against Moses, only to beg Moses to forgive and heal Miriam
-Moses only speaks to ask God to forgive and heal his attackers
