Genesis 47:13-26
“He Is Lord”
Introduction:
1. “It’s mine!’ The words rang through the house. We rushed into see a small child grasping a worthless object.
2. It can happen in our spiritual lives. Is there something in your life right now that you are claiming…you scream to God, “It’s Mine!”
3. We fail to realize God wants it all. He has the right…He is Lord! You will never know fullness or fulfillment until you make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life.
4. “It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
5. Genesis 47:13-26 Joseph slowly but surely becomes Lord of all:
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
I. THE PRESSURE IN LORDSHIP 47:13,14
There is a crisis.
A.There is no bread in Egypt or Canaan. The land fainted. Perhaps it is the third or fourth year of the famine. It is a graphic word picture of one fainting.
B.Mankind is proud and independent. We live on our own then a crisis comes. It can happen to the believer. Reversals: “They found drugs in Willie’s locker.” Health: “It’s stage 4 cancer…we’ll have to operate.” Marital and family problems: “I didn’t know he drank.” “I didn’t know I would have to live like this.” “I never dreamed I would be alone.”
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
II. THE POVERTY IN LORDSHIP 47:15a
What we have is made inadequate.
A.When the money failed...they came to Joseph.
B.What we have is inadequate…Illus. of not having enough money. We think we are something. Then a crisis brings us to the end of ourselves and we fall back on Jesus.
III. THE PLEA IN LORDSHIP 47:15a
We cry out to God.
A.Give us bread for why should we die.
B.In our desperation we cry out to God. “I can’t…I need you.” “Please God…help!”
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
IV. THE PROMISE IN LORDSHIP 47:16
“Give Me what once sustained you, and I alone will meet your
needs.”
A.“Give me your cattle and I will give you...”
B.“Give Me what once sustained you, and I alone will meet your needs.”
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
V. THE PRESENTATION IN LORDSHIP 47:17
So we give what once sustained and He sustains us.
A.They brought cattle, horses, blocks, herds for bread...he fed them.
B.We give to Him what once sustained us and He sustains us. We give Him things…car, house, health, job, etc. Everything we give to Him will one day be tested.
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
VI. THE PANIC IN LORDSHIP 47:18,19
Then a deeper need arises. “God I’ve nothing left.”
A.There is nothing left but our bodies and land. Buy us and our land.
B.So with the deeper need we cry out to God. “God I’ve nothing left.”
C.“All I have is…(name something…my children, my looks, my pride, my position, my place in the community, etc.) What do you still call ‘mine’?
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
VII. THE PRINCIPLE IN LORDSHIP 47:20-24
A.Vss. 23, 24 Time and again we come to the end of ourselves and our resources.
B. Softly God says, “That’s what I’ve waited for...now give me the title to it all, and I’ll give you back the privilege of using it.” Nothing…Nothing…Nothing is mine!
C.Illus. of F.B. Meyer (a pastor, author of over 75 books, contemporary of D.L. Moody): F.B. Meyer sat dejected in his study. “My ministry is unfruitful, and I lack spiritual power.” Then to his spirit God spoke: “Let Me have the keys to your life.” Meyer took out a bunch of keys. “Are all the keys here?” Meyer spoke: “Yes, Lord all except the key to one small room of my life.” “Give Me all the keys.” Finally, he said, “Lord, take the keys to all the rooms of my life.” NEW POWER WAS HIS!
God wants all the keys. Have you given Him all the keys to all the rooms?
“It’s mine!” Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
VIII. THE PLEASURE IN LORDSHIP 47:25,26
A.In verses 25, 26 They give back a portion of what he has given to them. That is why we give to God as He has prospered us.
B.“You have saved our lives. We shall be your servants forever.”
C. At last we enter into the sheer freedom of harvesting the crop on the Master’s soil with the Master’s seed for the Master’s glory.
“It’s mine!” No wonder you’re miserable...IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOU!!
