“A LETTER FROM CHRIST”
(2 Corinthians 3:1-3 - ESV)

1 Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or from you?

2 You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all.

3 And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

People write and read letters daily, but how often do we read “A Letter From Christ?” Paul described the Church of Corinth as “A Letter From Christ” written by God’s Spirit rather than ink. Paul further described the Church of Corinth as “A Letter From Christ” written on the tablets of human hearts rather than on tablets of stone.

Like the Corinthians, the church is “A Letter From Christ.” When people see us, they should regard and respect us as special, “A Letter From Christ.” Every paragraph of our lives should have Christ as the topic sentence. Furthermore, our lives should always be available for others to read (not judge) since we are “A Letter From Christ.” When people observe and read us, they should experience Christ who lives within us.

The world needs to read “A Letter From Christ.” Consequently, many can be saved by experiencing Christ who is within us because we are “A Letter From Christ.”

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

“St. John exists, as A Kingdom Building Church in two communities,
to Evangelize sinners and Equip saints,
who are Edifying and Enjoying one another,
to Exalt the SAVIOR” (Mt. 28:18-20).

THANK YOU

At St. John, June was Pastor Edification Month. I was truly blessed because of the love and kindness I enjoyed from so many of you. For 37 years, I have been blessed annually with Pastor Appreciation Worship Celebrations (except for 2020 due to the pandemic). Even though we did not celebrate as we have in the past with a guest church and tasty meal, I am today a happier person because so many of you demonstrated your love and appreciation to me (your beloved pastor who has served St. John for 30 years) through generous love offerings and unfeigned edifications.

May God bless you even more abundantly, for you have truly blessed me. Thank you!

LET’S HAVE A GOOD TIME!

We are so blessed to conclude another month (June) and enter another month (July), so let’s demonstrate our gratitude to the Lord. One of the ways we can show how appreciative we are to Him is by worshipping Him in Spirit and truth.

“Let’s Have A Good Time” at St. John this upcoming Sunday (July 7, 2024) at the North Campus (9:00 a.m.) and/or South Campus (11:00 a.m.). If God permits, I will preach, our Sanctuary Choir will sing, we will serve the Lord’s Supper, and we will acknowledge July birthdays in both morning Worship Celebrations. Therefore, come and inspire others to worship with us.

A HOMEGOING CELEBRATION

A Homegoing Celebration for Bro. James White will be Friday, July 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes Oakland Funeral Home (4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA). He was the brother of Deacon Steven Porter. (Let us remember her family in prayer.)

A BODY, MIND & SOUL AFFAIR

On Saturday, July 20th, (12:00 to 4:00 p.m.), A Mind, Body, & Soul Affair will be at our South Campus providing awareness and resources for hypertension/blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and mental health. Many professionals will be participating. Come and share with others that it is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Min. Eric Frazier (Generation NoWWW Minister).

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Vacation Bible School is a great and fulfilling outreach for a church because children and others are consequently blessed. We will have our 2024 Vacation Bible School at the North Campus Monday (July 22nd) through Friday (July 26th), from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Sis. Tammy Brown will be the Servant Leader, and many will be assisting and teaching. Moreover, lunch will be served daily.

Let us do all we can to inspire and bring children to our 2024 Vacation Bible School. Registration can be done in person at the front desk of each campus or online through our website (sjmbc.org).

“GENEROSITY IS AN ATTRIBUTE OF CHRISTIANITY”

Christianity is the greatest and strongest world religion, and it is based on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus Christ is so generous, Christians should be generous, for “Generosity Is An Attribute Of Christianity.” Someone said: “Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need.”

Believers who give a lot receive a lot. 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV) says, “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”

Believers please God by faithfully and generously giving Him tithes and offerings. Tithing is giving to God 10% of our gross income/increase (which belongs to God), and the remaining 90% is ours to utilize wisely. God inspires us to give our offerings from the remaining 90%, in addition to our tithes. Our tithes and offerings should be set aside before paying anything else (first fruits).

At St. John, we give in person during Sunday Morning Worship Celebrations, by mailing or dropping off our tithes and offerings at our Administration Building or South Campus. We also give online through our website (sjmbc.org).

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Intercessory Prayer is when believers pray on behalf of others. James 5:16b says: “Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” When believers pray for one another, people are blessed. For example, Peter was delivered from prison because the church prayed incessantly to God on his behalf (Acts 12:5-17). Because God answers prayer, please pray daily for others and the following:

St. John Missionary Baptist Church: Ask God to grow our congregation spiritually, numerically, and financially. Also, pray to God regarding our Building Project, and intercede on behalf of parishioners who are ill.

MEMORANDUM

Our Worship Celebrations: We have two in-person Worship Celebrations on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. (the North Campus) and 11:00 a.m. (the South Campus). Also, our virtual audience is proliferating. Let’s continue to share with others how they can view our Worship Celebrations via live streaming (YouTube) or hear them via podcasts. For more information, you may visit our website at sjmbc.org.

Our Family Life Center: The City of Richmond approved the revised design for our Family Life Center saving us over $500,000.00. We are close to selecting and signing an indenture with a contractor.

Please pray daily regarding our Family Life Center which will be adjacent to our current sanctuary at the North Campus, consisting of a gymnasium, weight room, and game room (mainly for kids). Also, a parking lot will be across the street from this edifice.

Many of us made a commitment that we fulfilled, but some have not. I am not promoting equal giving but equal sacrifice, which is an appeal to each of us to do our very best. If you are a parishioner or affiliate of St. John, you should want to give financially so that you will feel good in the future knowing that you contributed to an edifice that will glorify God and enrich a community.

May God bless each of us who have already fulfilled our pledge and others who have made “Building Fund” contributions. I encourage everyone (if you have not already done so) to contribute financially (in full or in installments) as soon as possible to this building project by choosing one of the following tiers:

1) $10,000.00 or more
2) $5,000.00 to $9,999.00
3) $1,000.00 to $4,999.00
4) $500.00 to $999.00
5) Below $500.00

Our Weekly Activities: I strongly encourage everyone to participate in the St. John activities that benefit you. Visit our website at sjmbc.org if you need more information. What’s forthcoming?

A BIBLICAL RECAPITULATION

The world needs to read “A Letter From Christ” (2 Cor. 3:1-3 - ESV). Also, “Generosity Is An Attribute Of Christianity” (2 Cor.9:6).

May God bless and sustain each of us.
