“Upper Room Discourse”
I. Change our View of Power

Power of an Ideology
Power of the Military
Power of Stuff
Power of cold hard currency
Jesus' actions were an assault against their normal way of doing things.
"Rising up from the Heavenly banquet in intimate union . . . with the Father, He laid aside the garments of His glory, wrapped about His divinity the towel of human nature . . .; poured the laver of regeneration which is His blood shed on the cross to redeem men, and began washing the souls of His disciples and followers through . . . His death.”
There is no greater power in the world than the power of a sacrificial life.
I. Change our View of Power
II. Change our view of self
- He knew where He came from.
- He knew where He was going - back to God.
- He knew that He had been given all things.
1. Do we know where we came from?
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!

– Psalm 139:13-14; 17
1. Do we know where we came from?
2. Do we really know where we’re really going?
1. Do we know where we came from?
2. Do we really know where we’re really going?
3. Do we know what our resources are?
Romans 8:32
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Ephesians 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Until we settle the issue of our identity in Jesus, we will never be comfortable serving others. When we stop striving for the approval of others and accept the fact that God has secured our past, future and our present then and only then will we forget about ourselves, take up the basin and the towel and serve.

- Serving doesn’t discriminate

- Serving doesn’t discriminate
- The joy of service can only be expressed through actually serving
