Confidence in God’s Sovereign Goodness
Paul’s conversion/background
- God always is the one doing the transformational work in our lives
- Paul had a dramatic encounter with the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus
- Paul was trying to do everything he could to climb the ladder of his religion, to be righteous, to try and earn favor, but Jesus showed up and blinded Paul so he could see his need for God's grace.
- Meeting Jesus changed Paul, a repentant heart changes direction, and so God renovated Paul for kingdom good, utilizing his education and zeal to now lead people to Christ and start new churches, a total turnaround.

Define Confidence
So the big idea today is that we can have Confidence in God’s Sovereign Goodness! What is biblical confidence? It is this steadfast reliance on God’s character, promises, and faithfulness, not just for our salvation but for all of our life.
This is NOT self confidence. Tim Keller puts it well when he says: "The essence of Gospel-humility is not thinking more of myself or thinking less of myself, it is thinking of myself less." This points to a shift from self-centeredness to God-centeredness, highlighting that our confidence should be rooted in our relationship with God rather than in our own merits.
"Putting our faith in Christ is not about trying harder; it means transferring our trust away from ourselves and resting in him."
What are we putting our confidence in rather than trusting in God’s Sovereign Goodness?
We are constantly putting our trust and confidence in things other than God’s Sovereign Goodness.

3 “Cs” of having Confidence in God’s Sovereign Goodness
- Celebrate
- Contentment
- Citizenship
- Celebrate
- Contentment
- Citizenship
1. We can confidently Celebrate the fact that we know Jesus Christ (12-18)
2. We can confidently be Content even in difficult situations. (19-26)
- What would you rate your confidence that God is Sovereignly good and guiding your situation?
- What were the words Paul used to encourage the Philippians? And can we use them for ourselves?
3. We can confidently rest in the fact that ultimately our true Citizenship is in heaven.

Where is our confidence?
Where are we placing our confidence?
Are we willing to allow God to deal with frustrating people?
Are we willing to celebrate God’s goodness?
Are we confident that God is Good in the midst of our struggles?
Will you join me praying 5 days in a row this week with at least 1 other person?
Will we ask others to pray for us?
