Introduction:
A theology of work.
Colossians 3:22-25 NASB
22 Slaves, in all things, obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,
Colossians 3:22-25 NASB
22 Slaves, in all things, obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,
Our excuses:
I serve God, not man.
I don’t enjoy that kind of work.
I am not appreciated.
I serve God, not man.
I don’t enjoy that kind of work.
I am not appreciated.
We work with sincerity of heart and reverence for God.
2 Corinthians 11:3
3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.
3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.
Work as worship.
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. 25 For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.
No earthly award or applause compares to our eternal inheritance.
Colossians 4:1 NASB
4 Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.
In Christ, we all have the same master.

In Christ, we all have the same master.
Our relationship with Jesus transforms every part of our life.
“… changed from violent, tyrannical characters, either from having watched their Christian neighbors or from having observed the wonderful patience of Christian travelers when overcharged or from doing business with Christians.”

Colossians 3:22 – 4:1, Pastor Lance Ainsworth
June 20th & June 23rd, 2024
A new work ethic.
Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: What is your best or worst job?
Read Aloud: Colossians 3:22-4:1
1. Genesis 2:15 “Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.” Why did God create mankind to work? Do you think there will be work in the new heaven and earth? How does work draw us closer to God? Is work just your job?
2. v. 22-23 “Slaves, in all things, obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,” Do you view work, not just your job, as worship? Are we deceived if we work for the applause of people? How can we keep a good attitude during work hardship?
3. v. 24-25 “knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. 25 For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.” When you are working for an earthly boss, do you think about eternal rewards? Read Revelation 21:1-7. What sticks out to you?
4. v.1 “Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.” Imagine hearing this letter for the first time and both slave and master are hearing it. What do you think the response of the slave and the master towards each other might be? If you work for a fair Christian boss, does that motivate you to work harder or take advantage?
