Happy Father's Day!

God has High Regard for Dads!

Why? Because earthly fathers are the model of our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

God Loves Fathers. He is One! Dr. James Lamb
David Brooks talks about the difference between resume-and-eulogy virtues.

a. Resume-virtues--your resume; skills that make you successful. You talk about

b. Eulogy-virtues are deeper,--they are the virtues others say about you at your funeral.

Most of us would agree that eulogy-virtues are more important than resume-virtues; but why don’t we always live like that?
Ancient philosopher Socrates said:

“Could I climb to the highest place in Athens, I would lift my voice and proclaim, ‘Fellow citizens, why do you turn and scrape every stone to gather wealth and take so little care of your children to who one day you must relinquish it all.”
Do you want to be a better Father?

King David’s final words to his beloved son Solomon are eulogy virtues--powerful words about what matters in life that point back to the ultimate Father, God!
Know: Have Personal knowledge

For the future:
There is only one mediator between God and mankind, the man Jesus Christ!

a. No one else can get you in
b. No religious system that you try to follow
c. No amount of good works

For Today:

a. Want to be successful: Get to know Jesus!
b. Want a to be a better husband? Wife? Get to know Him

1. What’s my #1 responsibility in my marriage? Get to know Him.

c. Want to be a better parent? The best thing I can do for my kids is, get to know Him.

d. Want to be in the workplace? Get to know Him

1. When George Washington Carver asked God to reveal the secrets of the universe, God told him he was too small to grasp the secrets of the universe. Instead, God would show him the secrets of the peanut. Born a slave in 1864, he discovered over 300 uses for the peanut & revolutionized agriculture in the South.

e. Want to be a better student? Get to know Him
Want to be a better Father?
Know your Why!
What's yours?

To know your why, Get to know Him
Solomon, this is why you were born. It’s your purpose, why you were created

1. Not about what you do
2. Or what you build
3. Or how you rule
4. No, but to know the God of your father
“and serve Him with a blameless heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and minds, and understands every intent and inclination of the thoughts.”

a. To know came before the command to serve.

“To know God is to serve Him. All failure in service is the result of loss of vision of God, misapprehension of Him, due to some distance from Him.” (Morgan)
Godly Fathers strive to know God and lead the way in their family knowing God.

1. The world is in desperate need of men who will follow the lead of Jesus in servant-leadership.

a. Mark 10: 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
A Godly father sets the pace for his family by walking what he talks.
A Godly Father leads with Love

His children will learn how to love their spouse by the way he loves his wife.
He sets the boundaries
vs 10 "Consider this carefully, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be courageous and strong and do it.” AMP

Consider this carefully.

(to see, perceive, have vision, to look at, regard, look after, see after, learn about, observe, watch, look upon, look out, find out, give attention to, discern, distinguish, gaze at)

a. You too have been chosen by God to build a house--Not of brick and mortar but by God’s grace a spiritual house, a family.
Be courageous and strong and do it!

It will take resisting the constant pull to put other things in front of my family. Even good things, godly things.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, you’re in charge of creating a culture of unconditional love in your family!

1. When the prodigal son came home broke and broke down because of his poor decisions, the dad had compassion
George W Bush, commenting on his dad’s comment said, “I’ve never known a day my father didn’t love me unconditionally. Not that I didn‘t give him the opportunity!” Do you know what that did for me? It gave me the freedom to fail. You’re not truly emotionally free to fail unless you know someone loves you unconditionally
· Regardless of your past, your father, or your failures in parenting, you have the potential to be a godly father!

· You can be a father or mentor to a fatherless boy, even if you’ve never had children
