Love Is…Humble
1 Corinthians 13:4-5
June 16, 2024

[Love] does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking…
1 Corinthians 13:4-5

[Love] does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking…
1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Pride: making ME bigger than I ought to be.

Love is humble.

How to be humble...
1. Make a big deal of the “little” people.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves... (Philippians 2:3)

How to be humble...
2. Give glory to the Giver of gifts.

Your help has made me great. (Psalm 18:35)

How to be humble...
3. Admit Your Weaknesses.

How to be humble...
3. Admit your weaknesses.
I will boast of the things that show my weakness. (2 Corinthians 11:30)

How to be humble...
4. Fight to not be first.

How to be humble...
4. Fight to not be first.
“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.”
–Rick Warren

How to be humble...
4. Fight to not be first.
I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit—I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people. (Romans 9:1-3)

How to be humble...
4. Fight to not be first.
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God,... made himself nothing... he humbled himself... (Philippians 2:5-8)

How to be humble...
5. Get into the Presence of God.

How to be humble...
5. Get into the Presence of God.
Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:23-23)

How to be humble...
6. Surrender yourself to God.

How to be humble...
6. Surrender yourself to God.
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." (James 4:6)

How to be humble...
6. Surrender yourself to God.
Surrendering my life to God is the ultimate act of humility.
