Three Characteristics of the Spirit
1. The Holy Spirit is a fire we did not ignite.
And tongues spreading out like a fire[a] appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them. Acts 2:3
Isaiah 4:4, Revelation 4:5
2. The Holy Spirit is a fire we can extinguish.
Because of this I remind you to rekindle God’s gift that you possess[a] through the laying on of my hands. 2 Timothy 1:6
1 Thessalonians 5:19
3. Only God can fill you with His Spirit
And do not get drunk with wine, which[a] is debauchery,[b] but be filled by the Spirit Ephesians 5:18
Fire extinguishers
1. You fill yourself with junk.
Ephesians 5:18
2. You stop reading and obeying Gods word
Do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 But examine all things; hold fast to what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
3. You start relying on your own self effort (the flesh)
How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort? Galatians 3:3 NLT
4. You start neglecting your spiritual gift
2 Timothy 1:6
5. You stop meeting with other believers
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25 NLT
