INTRODUCTION: The Two Basic Types of Churches
The Universal Church -is a heavenly and eschatological assembly of everyone—past, present, and future—who belongs to Christ’s new covenant and kingdom.
The Local Church -is a mutually-affirming group of new covenant members and kingdom citizens, identified by regularly gathering together in Jesus’ name through preaching the gospel and celebrating the ordinances, Serving the Lord and fulfilling His mission.
WORD POWER: Church (ekklesia) means assembly, and the New Testament envisions two kinds of assemblies: one in heaven and many on earth.
ANALYSIS/APPLICATION: The House in the Kingdom
The House in the Kingdom is a Diverse House.
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Vs 20.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 13:47-50
2. The House in the Kingdom is a Dutiful House. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. Vs 21
But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28
3. The House in the Kingdom is a Deliverance House.
Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Becoming a vessel of Honor. By purifying yourselves. Vs 22
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the [k]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39
