Love Is Kind
1 Corinthians 13:4,5
June 9, 2024
Love is kind.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Kindness: considerate, helpful; bringing happiness to others by doing good.
Love is kind.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Kindness: considerate, helpful; bringing happiness to others by doing good.
It is not rude.
1 Corinthians 13:5
Rudeness: being disrespectful or impolite, especially in a deliberate way.
Love responds to rudeness with kindness.
If we think that people deserve our rudeness, we might also act like people must earn our kindness.
Luke 6:32-35
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
Luke 7:37-46
A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.
Luke 7:37-46
As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears.
Luke 7:37-46
Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
Luke 7:37-46
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
Kindness can be risky.
Kindness is always loving, but not always pleasant.
Luke 7:37-46
“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
God is relentlessly loving and kind.
