Be Alert and of Sober Mind - Phil Kendon

Be Alert and of Sober Mind - Phil Kendon

The apostle Peter writes this letter near the end of his life and it is clear that he has in mind some of his experiences with Jesus as he writes. It was Jesus who urged his disciples to watch and pray in the Garden of Gethsemane just before his death and Peter is urging us to do the same. We are following in the footsteps of the disciples who have gone before and experiencing the same challenges as other disciples around the world. Now is the time to “be alert and of sober mind.”

Sunday 9:30 AM

1. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you

- Like fishermen cast their net into the vast and deep ocean, cast your anxiety on God.
2. Be alert and of sober mind

- The enemy is prowling around like a roaring lion seeking for someone to devour - unsuspecting, asleep, oblivious to the trap being laid.
3. Resist him, standing firm in the faith

- All believers are facing similar trials, not just you.
4. Eternal glory versus suffering for a little while

- This world is temporary but the next is permanent.
5. The God of all grace will restore you

- God will restore you and make you completely strong, completely firm, and completely steadfast.
6. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen

- The same God who sustained Peter is sustaining us.
Remember:

Be alert and of sober mind.
