In today’s sermon, we ask, “What does it mean to be successful?” by focusing on the blessings and woes part of what some scholars call the “Sermon on the Plain.” May the Lord bless you as you listen to His Word!

Main Idea: Following Jesus Redefines what it means to be Successful.
Four areas of life where Jesus redefines what it means to be successful:
1) Possessions = Rich v. Poor
The world says successful people are comfortably well-off
Jesus says successful people keenly aware of their need for God
2) Purpose = Full v. Hungry
The world says successful people live for the things of this world
Jesus says successful people are hungry for the things of God
3) Priorities = Laugh v. Weep
The world says successful people pursue a life of comfort & ease
Jesus says successful people are troubled by the world’s brokenness
4) Position = Loved v. Hated
The world says successful people are well-liked because they are loyal to the world
Jesus says successful people are rejected because they are loyal to Jesus.
