As we take time to study the book of Acts, we will see how the Holy Spirit empowers believers, both in the past and present) to accomplish the Great Commission, thereby forming and growing the Church.
Join us for a study through the book of Acts to see how the Spirit wants to use you, to continue growing the Church and fulfill the Great Commission!

Acts 11:1-18 (ESV)
Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying, “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” But Peter began and explained it to them in order: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven. And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea. And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man's house. And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter; he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?” When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

Peter’s Explanation
1. We Must Understand That Salvation Is God’s Process and Plan, But God Uses Us In The Process And Plan.
2. If You Are Not Involved In Getting The Gospel To The Nations, You’re Not Involved In God’s Purpose.
3. The Local Church Should Be As Diverse As Its Population.

Peter’s Critics
1. Human Traditions Are More Important Than Salvation.
2. The Church Should Consist Of “My Kind” Of People.
3. God Has To Do Things My Way.

We Need To Allow God To Change Our Thinking...
1. God Changes Us As We Seek To Walk With Him.
2. God Changes Us By Allowing Us To Go Through Uncomfortable Circumstances.
3. God Changes Us By Repeating The Lesson Until It Sinks In.
4. God Changes Us By Appealing To Our Thinking With His Word Of Truth.
5. God Changes Us By Getting Us To See He Is Sovereign, And We Are Not.

Acts 11:19-26 (ESV)
Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenistsalso, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

General Notes
Great Commission
Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the End of the age.”

For those checking out The Shores Church and God today:
Pastor Scott and Annie trust that you feel welcomed here at The Shores Church/online. Our mission is to help people live a life anchored to Jesus...and that is a process. If you haven't made the decision to receive forgiveness for your sin, and confess Jesus as Lord of your life, today can be your day!(Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:23, 10:13)
Romans 10:9-10 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
"Getting saved" is the first step in anyone's faith journey...being anchored to Jesus. It is an inward belief that God is God and that He sent His Son for you to die on the cross, was buried in a tomb for three days, and was resurrected for you.
It's also an outward verbal confession of faith in this first step. Verbally confess that you are a sinner, receive Jesus' forgiveness, and declare that He is Lord of your life! It can look and sound as simple as something like this:
"Jesus, I believe that you are for me. I believe that you died on the cross, was buried for three days, and rose again for me. I confess that I am a sinner and today I receive your forgiveness. I declare that you are the Lord of my life! Thank you for loving me, in Jesus Name, Amen".
Whenever you make the decision to take this step, tell somebody and please let us here at The Shores know. Again, the life of faith is a process and we want to help and encourage in any way we can!
