15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
Jesus is preeminent.
16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavensand on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Jesus is First
Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: What is your favorite part of God’s creation?
Read Aloud: Colossians 1:15-20
1. v.16-17 “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” What part of creation intrigues you most? (Creation through/by Jesus, Creation for Jesus, or Creation held together in Jesus) Why?
2. v.18-19 “He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,” What does it mean for Jesus to be the head of the church? How is Jesus the prototype and how do we follow His example? Do you have a mission or maintenance view of the church?
3. v.20 “and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” Do you think of creation as something to be reconciled? Is this reconciliation future, now, or both? What does it mean to have the Ministry of Reconciliation?
4. v.15 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Firstborn here means first in priority and quality. Have you ever been guilty of the Jesus and ___________ syndrome? What was the result? Why must Jesus be first?
