Ice Breaker: When you hear the phrase "half-truth", what comes to your mind?
We're talking about half-truths in the brand new series that we are calling "Holy Half Truths". We will be talking about some of the confusing things we say about God and ways that we can believe and live with more clarity.
A Half-Truth is a statement that contains some, but not all, elements of the truth. In other words, it's true, but not completely. What are some common beliefs and assumptions about God that many Christ-Followers tell others? What is the intention behind these "half truths"?
God has a plan, this is certainly true! Why do we spend so much time trying to figure out His plan?
We often assume that God's plan for our lives will line up with the plans that we have. But when things don't go the way we plan, we get discouraged and even angry. Can you recall a time in your life when you were discouraged that God's plan for your life was different from the plan you had in mind?
For us to better understand God, we need to clarify the difference between His "purpose" and His "plan". Read the following 3 scriptures. Why is it better to view them from the point of view of God's purpose instead of His plan? How do these purposes provide us with a more clear picture of His whole truth?
What might God's purposes be? Pastor Jonathan shared 4 possible examples that may be behind what God is doing in our lives. Have you experienced any of these 4 purposes in your own life? If so, what was God doing into it all?
To better Know Him- He is with us
An Inward Change- becoming more like Jesus
An Outward Expression- Love as Jesus loves us
To Bring The Way of His Kingdom- Join Him in His work
Read Lamentations 3:21-23. Take time to go to our Heavenly Father in prayer. Thank Him for His steadfast love and unending mercy. Ask Him to help you see His purpose in it all.
