The Power of the Gospel
Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: When have you been most surprised?
Read Aloud: Colossians 1:1-14
1. v.5 “because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel.” Do you feel equipped to share the gospel? Why or why not? What significance does your testimony have when sharing the gospel?
2. v.6 “which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;” The day of Jesus death on the cross has forever been marked in history. Can you think of any other historical event that is more known? How do you see the gospel bearing fruit and increasing in your life and worldwide?
3. v.9 “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,” How do we decipher God’s will? How does God’s word (the Bible) help us know God’s will? How does the application of God’s word help in understanding God’s will?
4. v.12-14 “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Paul explains the Gospel in these three verses. What sticks out to you? What are you most thankful for?
