Moses went to "Desert University"

Midian was primarily a wilderness, or desert environment. Most Bible scholars believe that Midian is located in what is Saudi Arabia today.
This most likely brings to mind images of barren desert landscapes and vast arid wastelands. This is where Moses found himself living and working for decades. Something to note, though: God didn't lead Moses into the desert to ruin him, but rather to educate him.
Moses "took some classes"

He was the son of the Pharaoh’s daughter. He had been a "somebody." When he used to walk down the streets of Egypt, heads turned. When he talked, people stopped talking and listened. Now, he was the son-in-law of a man who lived in a desolate place known as Midian, who spent a lifetime raising sheep.

The "class" of obscurity is never an easy one.The lessons we have to learn are not easy, but we have to keep in mind that if we are serious about living out God’s will in God’s way, they are absolutely necessary.
Moses' "Class" about Patience/Timing

The time in which Moses was in the desert of Midian was described as “many days.” It was 40 years - so 14,080 days to be exact. When it comes to our desert education, God not only plans the scope of our education, he also plans the length of it as well.
Moses' "Class" about Discomfort

All of the education in discomfort that Moses received in God’s desert university would ultimately be used to prepare him for the task God had for him of leading the nation of Israel - a task that would also not be full of creature comforts of that day.

Some of the discomfort that believers experience:

-> There is going to be the need to deny certain fleshly desires.
-> There is going to be the need to sacrifice certain fleshly activities.
-> There is going to be the need to store up treasures in heaven rather than here on earth.
-> There is going to be the need to accept rejection and ridicule.
-> There is going to be the need to live by faith and not by sight.
