1. Like the lepers, we all have a problem only Jesus can fix
2. Feeling thankful doesn't equal giving thanks
The one leper responded with worship…
•Promptly
“But one of them, seeing that he was healed, returned…” Luke 17:15
•Passionately
“…and, with a loud voice, gave glory to God.” Luke 17:15
•Publicly
“He fell facedown at his feet, thanking him. And he was a Samaritan.” Luke 17:16

Dig Deeper:
1. Describe the most grateful person you know. How does their gratefulness shape them and their interactions with others?
2. Read Luke 17:11-13 and Leviticus 13:45-46. Why did the men stand at a distance? What do we know about the disease of leprosy in the time these events took place? How would their lives have been affected by this diagnosis?
3. How does leprosy represent sin? Discuss the differences and similarities between the two.
4. How do they address Jesus when he walks by? Why is this significant?
5. Why did the lepers ask for “mercy”? What does this reveal about how they feel? What are some other times in life when a person might ask for mercy?
6. Have you ever been sick, and because of it, no one wanted to be near you? How did that make you feel?
7. What does Jesus see when he looks at the lepers that others weren’t willing or able to see? How is this reflected in our life?
8. Read Luke 17:14. Why do you think Jesus instructs them as He does? How would you feel in this situation?
9. What was the result of the lepers’ obedience to Jesus? Describe this event and what it might have looked like, both to the lepers and to those around them.
10. Why would getting to the priests be a significant goal for these lepers?
11. Read Luke 17:15-16. What do you think was going through the mind of the tenth leper just before he turned back? What does he do once he gets back to Jesus?
12. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:18. What is one thing you can thank Jesus for today? Why is it important to continually share with Him what you are grateful for?
13. Discuss ways in which we can regularly respond to Jesus promptly, passionately, and publicly to show our love and gratitude to Him?
14. Read Luke 17:17-19. Why do you think the nine didn’t come back, but instead continued on their way to the priests?
15. Why does Jesus call him a foreigner? Why is that important? Where might have the man went as he left Jesus?
16. Did the tenth leper leave Jesus that day with something different than what the other nine received? If so, what?
17. What are some things you learned about Jesus through this encounter? What are some things you learned about yourself?
Live It Out:
Will you be the one? Will you be the one who returns gratefully to the feet of Jesus on a daily basis? This week, begin a habit of gratitude. Spend time thinking and thanking God for who He is and what He has done for you. Write it out or shout it out, or both. However you do it, be prompt, passionate, and public, sharing both with God and with others what He has done in your life.
As you write and share your gratitude to God, keep it going beyond this week! List a few specific items of gratefulness each day, despite your circumstances or how you feel. Observe how God works in your life as you deepen your relationship with him through your time together.
