April 14, 2024 | Servanthood

The big call of servanthood is what Philippians 2:5-11 is all about. It is one of the eight major perspectives that greatly influence the level of joy in our lives. Without them, life is prideful, self-centered, and frustrating. With them, we are liberated and aligned to live out what God has called us to! Jesus calls us to servanthood.

NOTES | Servanthood
Philippians 2:5-11
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
“But the greatest among you shall be your servant.”

- Jesus, in Matthew 23:11
Philippians 2:5-7
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…taking the form of a bond-servant…
Remember the BIG ASK – servanthood.
Big Theology

Philippians 2:6
…who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped…
“He existed” means that Jesus continued to be in the form of God.
John 1:1-2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
Colossians 1:16
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
Jesus is co-existent, co-equal, co-eternal as God.
No matter WHO you are, remember the big ask – servanthood.
Big Love

Philippians 2:6-7
…did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself…
HIS identity wasn’t the foremost thought in this description – OUR lostness was.
John 1:14
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
No matter what you leave behind, remember the big ask – servanthood.
Big Call

Philippians 2:7-8
…but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
He emptied Himself.

He changed Himself.

He humbled Himself.
The bond-servant is one who is in a permanent relation of servitude to another.
“Nevertheless, not My will, but Thy will be done.”

– Jesus
No matter how difficult it is, remember the big ask – servanthood.
Big Day

Philippians 2:9-11
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Be the unselfish person, the loving person, the serving person. That’s the big ask.
Philippians 2:5-6
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…taking the form of a bond-servant…
