“Today’s an invitation to examine ourselves. Are we living our part of the partnership [with God]? How are we doing at demonstrating the character of God to the world? ….It’s easy to love money; it’s harder to live in God’s heart and work for justice. Today’s an invitation to center our lives back on God and to align our hearts with his.”
-Derek Steinacher
2 Primary Sins
1. Absence of true worship
2. Lack of social justice
3 Central Points:
1. Privilege brings peril
2. Past history cannot take the place of present spiritual and moral commitment
3. Religious practices are invalid unless verified by clear evidence
First question:
How do we know what’s in God’s heart?
“These are the things which mark our society also: some more, some less.
None of them is true about everybody; each of them is true about somebody.”
The Message of Amos -J. Alec Motyer
Second question:
What about the wrathful parts of God?
Mishpat-
Hebrew word for judgment/justice

We must open our eyes to what’s around us and recognize a God who loves people so much that he wants justice and is the ultimate judge- including the judge of us.
