Dangerous Prayers
"Search me..."

Psalms 139:23-24

Part 1:
--> Search my heart <--
"Search me, God, and know my heart..."

Jeremiah 17:9

A word of caution:
- Do not pray, "Search me, God, and know my heart" when you haven't even searched yourself.
- Do not mock God by asking Him to search your heart, when you aren't even willing to deal with the things in your heart that you know aren't right.
Part 2:
--> Reveal my fears <--
"Test me and know my anxious thoughts..."
--> What we fear the most reveals where we trust God the least <--

1 Peter 5:7

Part 3:
--> Uncover my sins <--
"See if there is any offensive way in me..."
3 Questions to ask when praying "God, uncover my sins"

1. What are others telling me?
2. What have I rationalized for some time?
3. Where am I most defensive?
We confess to God for forgiveness (1 John 1:9)
We confess to others for healing (James 5:16)

1 John 1:9

James 5:16

Part 4:
--> Lead Me <--
"Lead me in the way everlasting."

Psalms 139:23-24

To Do List:
- Pray Psalm 139:23-24
> Search my heart
> Reveal my fears
> Uncover my sins
> Lead me

Talk it over:
- How do you typically approach prayer? Are your prayers generally safe and comfortable, or do you find yourself praying for boldness and spiritual growth?
- How comfortable are you with the idea of God revealing the hidden aspects of your heart?
- Read Jeremiah 17:9. In what ways do you see self-deception in your own life?
- In what areas of your life do you face anxiety? How do you typically respond when you face anxiety and fears?
- How do you react when confronted with your own sins? Are you more likely to rationalize or deny them, or do you seek repentance and change?
- The sermon emphasized the importance of confessing both to God and to others, How comfortable are you with confessing your sins to others?
- Do you want to pray Psalm 139:23-24? Why or why not?
