RABBI JESUS PART 4
Matthew 23:10 HCSB
And do not be called masters either, because you have one, the Messiah.
Rabbi: An official title of honor meaning Master & Teacher
· Parable of the sower in the synoptic gospels
MARK 4:13 NKJV
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
Mark 4, Matthew 13 & Luke 8
1. Wayside- Satan comes immediately as a bird to steel & eat the seed, seed gets trampled on wayside like salt that has lost its flavor like Israel who is not being the light to the nations.
2. Stony Ground- The harvest is burned by the sun, & has no root in himself so it won’t remain when tribulation, affliction & persecution come for word’s sake.
3. Thorns- cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word.
4. Good Ground- Increased and produced 30, 60 & 100 fold
STONY GROUND
Luke 6:6
“Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture”
Luke 8:13
13 But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.
Ezekiel 36:25-27 NKJV
25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
· When you lack moisture, you are low on water!
Luke 6: story of the man whose right hand was “withered”
Withered: lack of natural juices, lack of moisture, away from the water. (has the meaning in Hebrew of scorching; “dry land”)
The man’s hand could not function as intended it had lost function and purpose for why it was created.
The man’s hand was dried up! No water!
When the word falls on the stony ground it lacks the water needed for it to flourish and survive!
What is a stony heart?
Nabal was a rich man but would not honor David and his men for protecting his possessions. David gave good to Nabal yet received evil in return for his kindness
1 Samuel 25:37
But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
Nabal heart got harder and harder until it became a stone!
Proverbs 29:1 NLT
Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.
Jeremiah 17:23
"Yet they did not listen or incline their ears, but stiffened their necks in order not to listen or take correction.
· A STONY HEART IS A STUBBORN HEART
· STUBBORNESS IS REFUSING TO HEAR AND LISTEN TO THE TRUTH FOUND IN GOD’S WORD
· WHEN YOU ARE STUBBORN YOU BECOME AN IDOL STEEPED IN INIQUITY (1 SAMUEL 15:22-23 rejected word of the lord)
Psalm 135:16-18 NIV:
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but cannot hear,
nor is there breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
Zechariah 7:12 NLT
They made their hearts as hard as stone, so they could not hear the instructions or the messages that the LORD of Heaven's Armies had sent them by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. That is why the LORD of Heaven's Armies was so angry with them.
JPS TRANSLATION
Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His spirit by the hand of the former prophets; therefore came there great wrath from the LORD of hosts.
ADAMANT: a primitive root; properly, to hedge about (as with thorns),
A SHARP POINT, HARD LIKE A DIAMOND
ZECHARIAH 7:12 NLT: Indeed, they made their heart as hard as diamond, so that they could not obey the Torah
1 Samuel 15:23 Darby
For rebellion is [as] the sin of divination, And self-will is [as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He hath also rejected thee from being king.
There is another meaning of stone that the bible teaches as well.
God’s of other nations are known as the Gods of wood & stone.
Deuteronomy 28
36 The Lord will drive you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors. There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone.
Worshiping the God’s of the nations is a curse.
The stone represents the acceptance of ways, creeds & cultures that are made in the image of man.
Saul became this type of king; he went so far as to consult with a witch.
Solomon also became this kind of king when he stubbornly refused to obey God’s commands about marriage.
Remember those seeds stone on the stony ground give in to the heat of persecution and affliction that come for the words sake.
These also don’t ever go deep enough to have a strong root!
Deuteronomy 11:16
Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
1 kings 11:2 NLT
The LORD had clearly instructed the people of Israel, 'You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.' Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway.

"You are not to associate with them and they are not to associate with you, because they will most certainly turn your affections away to follow their gods." Solomon became deeply attached to them by falling in love.
Matthew 10:37
37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
Luke 14:25-26 NKJV
25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
The word “Hate” actually meant in this context to “love less”
Jesus was using this technique to teach that you must “love less” every one and every thing.
Jesus was reaffirming the #1 priority and mission of God in your life has to be above everything else.
