Sunday Sermon:

Sunday Sermon:

Series: 1 Thessalonians: Hope for the Living and the Dead Title: Chapter 4 “This is the Will of God" Paul continues to coach these precious believers how to live life in Christ. There is one sinful pattern he singles out. Societies throughout history have been struggling with this same sin. And yes, it’s evident today as well. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor

It’s easy to miss the obvious searching for the spectacular!

Jesus rebukes the chief priests and elders for failing to do the will of the Father; they “did not repent and believe” (Matthew 21:32).

1. The will of God is to repent of our sin and trust in Christ.

a. If we have not taken that first step, then we have not yet accepted God’s will.
b. The better we get to know God, the more familiar we become with His desires.
Few things motivate us to live blameless lives than the return of Jesus
God’s Will for you…..Your Sanctification

1. The ancient writer Demosthenes expressed the general view of sex in the ancient Roman Empire: “We keep prostitutes for pleasure; we keep mistresses for the day to day needs of the body; we keep wives for the faithful guardianship of our homes.”

Christians were to take their standards of sexuality from God and not from culture.
a. A man shall leave his mother and father
b. And hold fast to his wife
c. And the 2 shall be one flesh
d. Both naked and not ashamed.

i. Man and woman
ii. Unity and oneness
iii. In covenant (for life)
iv. No shame

1. Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth
2. Oneness in sex
3. Joy

Anything outside those boundaries is sin.
Sexual sin transgresses and wrongs another.

a. It is taking something that is a precious gift for a future spouse
b. Lev 18 speaks of uncovering the nakedness of another not your spouse.
i. In Genesis they were naked and not ashamed.
Jesus purchased the power to reclaim our purity through His sacrificial death on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21).

"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

No sin, including sexual immorality, is too great for the power of that atoning death and resurrection to pardon. Even though we may have defiled the marriage bed in many ways, God can restore sexual purity and holiness when we repent and commit our lives to following Him
