The Pressure of the Pattern
A. The Picture is Distinct
Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
Jesus is the Author and the Finisher of our Faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
Colossians 1:15-18
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1 Corinthians 4:16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
B. The Purpose is Duplication
Philippians 3:16,17
16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
C. The Pressure is Deliberate
Here is what I discovered as I read this chapter.
1. There was pressure from God on Paul to write this letter. He spake as he was moved by the Holy Ghost.
2. There was pressure from Paul on Titus to be a pattern. Paul is exhorting Titus to be a pattern.
3. There was pressure on the churches to follow Titus’ pattern. What is the purpose otherwise?
The Pressure to be a Pattern in:
I. Our Deeds
A. The Emphasis on Good Works
God has ordained us to good works.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.
B. The Effects of Good Works
Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

II. Our Doctrine
Notice the lifestyle that was a result of Titus’ doctrine:
A. Showing Uncorruptness - incorruptibility, soundness, integrity
B. Gravity - the characteristic of a thing or person which entitles to reverence and respect, dignity, majesty, sanctity, honour, purity
C. Sincerity - incorruption, perpetuity, purity, sincerity, incorrupt

III. Our Dialogue
8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
1:10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
Paul placed a lot of emphasis on the believer being SOUND.
· Titus 1:9 sound doctrine
· Titus 1:13 sound in the faith;
· Titus 2:1 sound doctrine:
· Titus 2:2 sound in faith
· Titus 2:8 Sound speech
Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
1 Peter 3:15-17
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
