WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD
Luke 23:50-54 NIV
Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
Luke 23:55-56 NIV
The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
Luke 24:1 NIV
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
Three questions I want to ask you this easter:
How many of us spend too much time, energy and money attempting to make our dead things smell or look better?
Luke 24:2-3 NIV
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:4-5 NIV
While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. [5] In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?
What dead places have you been looking for life in?
Luke 24:6-8 NIV
He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: [7] 'The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'" [8] Then they remembered his words.
Luke 24:17-18,20-21 NIV
He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?" They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?" The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.
Luke 24:30-32 NIV
When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. [31] Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. [32] They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"
John 20:19-20 NIV
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" [20] After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
Luke 24:44-48 NIV
He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." [45] Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. [46] He told them, "This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, [47] and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] You are witnesses of these things.
How many of us understand that God didn't roll the stone away on Easter so He could get out of the tomb, but rather so we can look into the dead places as see how empty they are?
1 John 5:13 NIV
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
If you believe in the Jesus earthis as close to hell as you will ever get -- I only get's better
If you do not believe in Jesus, earth is as close to heaven as you will ever get -- it only gets worse
