Promises

Promises

Join us for the start of a new series called: Promises!  The God of the universe has made you some big promises. He made them first in the Old Testament, and they remain at the core of his heart and have never changed. They’re the key to your fulfillment and to his plans for you, both in this life and the life to come. God wants to rescue you from bondage. And he wants you to be a part of a family that is making a difference.  In the ancient celebration of Passover, we find a picture of God’s heart for us in the four cups of wine, representing each of the core promises. No matter where we are on our spiritual journey, these four cups of promise provide a simple, powerful, unforgettable way of reaching our potential and growing closer to God.   Join us starting Sunday, March 17th.

PROMISES
Part 2 – Christ Our Passover Lamb

(Exodus 6:6-7) Therefore, say to the Israelites: “I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.

The Cup of Sanctification – Salvation. "...I will bring you out"
The Cup of Deliverance – Freedom. "...I will free you"
The Cup of Redemption – Restoration. "...I will redeem you"
The Cup of Praise – Fulfilment. "...I will take you as my own people"

What is Passover?

(Exodus 12:26-27) And when your children ask you, “What does this ceremony mean to you?” then tell them, “It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.”

(Luke 22:15-20) And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

(1 Corinthians 5:7 NLT) Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.

Christ Our Passover Lamb

(John 1:29) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

The Lamb was perfect.
(Exodus 12:5) The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats.

(1 Peter 1:18-19) (You were redeemed)...with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

The Lamb was sacrificed.
(Exodus 12:6) Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.

(Isaiah 53:5) But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

The Lamb was shared.
(Exodus 12:4) If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they
must share one with their nearest neighbor.

(2 Corinthians 5:19) God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

Our Opportunity

1. Pray.
(1 Corinthians 4:4) The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

2. Invite.
(Romans 10:13-14 LB) Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But who can ask them to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells him?

3. Participate.
(Revelation 5:12) In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
