The words that came to Jesus were dangerous.
They questioned / denied His identity – "Are you not the Christ?" - in a mocking way, not in a clarifying-information way. That matters because of the identity of “the Christ”. It means "The Anointed One." The Chosen One. For Jews, it had deep and powerful meaning.
