Sermon Outline:

I. Walk to Emmaus

II. "We Had Hoped"

III. Hope Unfulfilled

IV. Burning Hearts

V. Hope Renewed (Resurrection)
NEXT STEPS:

1. Reflect on ways in which your hopes are have been unfulfilled.

2. Lift those ways to Jesus in prayer, that he would renew your hope.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. The disciples on the Road to Emmaus were initially discouraged and confused about Jesus' crucifixion. How does Jesus' interaction with them illustrate the importance of understanding Scripture and how it relates to the events in our lives?

2. How does the disciples' journey from disillusionment to renewed faith resonate with our own experiences of doubt and spiritual uncertainty? What can we learn from their encounter with Jesus for our own faith journeys? How does this passage encourage us to remain open to encountering Christ in unexpected places and moments?

3. The disciples' eyes were opened when Jesus broke bread with them - an act reminiscent of Communion. Does this moment between Jesus and the disciples provide insights into our understanding of Communion today? If so, how?
