WORD POWER: Pure (Katharos) - “clean, blameless, unstained from guilt.

1. By Faith in Christ, you and I were Made Pure (holy).

But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor 6:11

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all……..For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:10,14

2. By Faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit Helps us keep Pure.

“for he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight” Eph 1:4

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish… But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Gal 5:16-17,22-25

INTRO: The State of the Heart

Heart (Kardeeah)- It is the place where emotions and desires begin; it is that which drives the will of man towards action.

1. The heart is the Core of our being.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” Pr 4:23

2. The heart, in its natural condition, is evil, treacherous, and Deceitful.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jer 17:9

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” Mark 7:21-23

3. Spiritual life begins in the heart, and it begins with God through Repentance.

Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Pr 4:23

ANALYSIS: The Challenge of Keeping oneself Pure in Heart

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the articles of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his god. 3 Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles, 4 young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. 5 And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king. 6 Now from among those of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 7 To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Aza-riah, Abed-Nego. 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:1-8
