"There Is an Intruder!" Sermon Questions
1. What encouraged you from the sermon or passage and why?
2. What unsettled you from the sermon or passage and why?
3. Why do you believe that the Preacher's command in verses 8-9 to "Go...eat...drink...Enjoy life..." is challenging and uncomfortable for some Christians? What concerns would some have about Christians who eat, drink, and enjoy life?
4. How does verse 11 differ from what you have been taught? In what areas of life do you tend to believe that the race does go to the swift and the battle does go to the strong? How does that show itself practically in your life?
5. Reflecting on and preparing for death can make some Christians uncomfortable. Why do you think that is?
6. In Eccl 2 & 8, "the Preacher entertains the question, 'Why be wise when it too, along with pleasures, will gain us nothing in the world?' If no lasting gain exists under the sun, and nothing under the sun can change these conditions, and the wise ends up the same as the fool, then what is the point of being wise and good at all?" (Eswine). How would you begin to engage that question?
