Sermonic Text: Philippians 4:7

Sermonic Title: “The Peace Of God”

The Key Idea: Life Is Better When We Have The Peace Of God.

I. The Peace Of God Is Pleasant.

II. The Peace Of God Is Priceless.

III. The Peace Of God Is Permanent.
From the Pastor Desk

“CARING ONE FOR ANOTHER”
(1 Corinthians 12:25-27 - KJV)

25 That there should be no schism in the body;
but that the members should have the same care one for another.

26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it;
or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

People need to observe how much believers care more than how much believers know. “Caring One For Another” is a great need in the body of Christ, for we cannot effectively care for unbelievers if we are not “Caring One For Another” (caring for other believers).

When Christians are not “Caring One For Another,” schism (division) is the result. I agree with the maxim that says, “United we stand, [but] divided we fall” because greater accomplishments are made when people work together, especially when believers work together.

In a world displaying so much hatred, Christians need to exemplify the meaning of “Caring One For Another.” Paul described “Caring One For Another” as believers suffering when one suffers and believers rejoicing when one is honored.

The body of Christ will be much greater when others can see that we are “Caring One For Another.” Furthermore, the world will be much better when they can see that we are “Caring One For Another.” Therefore, let each of us do our part to enhance the body of Christ and augment the world by “Caring One For Another.”

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

“St. John exists, as A Kingdom Building Church in two communities,
to Evangelize sinners and Equip saints,
who are Edifying and Enjoying one another,
to Exalt the SAVIOR” (Mt. 28:18-20).

GENERATION NOWWW

Generation NoWWW consists of three divisions: 1) Stay-TUNED (Children 4-12), 2) Somethin’ NU (Youth 13-18), and 3) UpNEXT (Young Adults 19-39). Another event is planned. On March 16, 2024, Somethin’ NU is scheduled to have fun at the Diablo Escapes, 1948 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Walnut Creek, CA 94596. For more information, please discuss this with Min. Eric Frazier.

“WHAT SHOULD WE DO WHEN GOD BLESSES US FINANCIALLY?”

Acknowledging God who blesses us is essential. Some people insult God by saying they were lucky. When we receive a financial blessing, for instance, we are not lucky. We are blessed, and God is the One who faithfully blesses us.

Unfortunately, many fail to manage their financial blessings according to God’s will. Someone said: “When God blesses you financially, don’t raise your standard of living. Raise your standard of giving.” I agree that we should raise our standard of giving when God blesses us financially instead of focusing on ways to raise our standard of living. If we raise our standard of giving, this will in itself raise our standard of living.

Jesus said: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again”(Lk. 6:38). Giving is God’s way of blessing us with more, for “the more we give, the more shall we receive.” Consequently, let’s raise our standard of giving whenever God blesses us financially.

Believers please God by faithfully and generously giving Him tithes and offerings. Tithing is giving to God 10% of our gross income/increase (which belongs to God), and the remaining 90% is ours to utilize wisely. Our offerings are what God inspires us to give from the remaining 90% which is in addition to our tithes. Our tithes and offerings should be set aside before paying anything else (first fruits).

At St. John, we give in person during Sunday Morning Worship Celebrations, by mailing or dropping off our tithes and offerings at our Administration Building or South Campus. We also give online through our website (sjmbc.org).

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Intercessory Prayer is when believers pray on behalf of others. James 5:16b says: “Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” When believers pray for one another, people are blessed. For example, Peter was delivered from prison because the church prayed incessantly to God on his behalf (Acts 12:5-17). Because God answers prayer, please pray daily for others and the following:

St. John Missionary Baptist Church: Ask God to grow our congregation spiritually, numerically, and financially. Also, pray to Godregarding our Building Project, and intercede on behalf of parishioners who are ill.

that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

(Jn. 14-13-14)

CHURCH SCHOOL EXPLOSION MONTH

Our Church School (formerly known as Sunday School) is one of the strengths of St. John. God has blessed us with good leadership, equipped teachers, and many committed students. Although many participate weekly (Sundays at 2:00 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.), we solicit more participation. Our theme is “Come And Meet The God Of Scriptures” (Deuteronomy 31:12 - NLT). As the pastor, I encourage all participating students to influence one or more to attend our Church School this month. Also, I encourage people who are not participating in our Church School to “give it a try” for one month (throughout March). Hopefully, after experiencing joy, fulfillment, and knowledge throughout March, you will desire to participate henceforward.

MEMORANDUM

Our Worship Celebrations: We have two in-person Worship Celebrations on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. (the North Campus) and 11:00 a.m.(the South Campus). Also, our virtual audience is proliferating. Let’s continue to share with others how they can view our Worship Celebrations via live streaming (YouTube) or hear them via podcasts. For more information, you may visit our website at sjmbc.org.

Our Family Life Center: We have submitted again a revised design for our Family Life Center to the City of Richmond to be reviewed for reasons that could reduce the cost of our project. Hopefully, this will not be a long process. If the City of Richmond approves the various changes regarding the design, we then plan to select a construction contractor. Once this is done, construction will begin (hopefully the parking lot first). Please pray daily asking God to bless and direct us regarding our Family Life Center which will be adjacent to our current sanctuary at the North Campus, consisting of a gymnasium, weight room, and game room(mainly for kids). Also, a parking lot will be across the street from this edifice.

Many of us made a commitment that we fulfilled, but some have not. I am not promoting equal giving, but I am promoting equal sacrificewhich is an appeal to each of us to do our very best. If you are a parishioner or affiliate of St. John, you should want to give financially so that you will feel good in the future knowing that you contributed to an edifice that will glorify God and enrich a community.

May God bless each of us who have already fulfilled our pledge and others who have made “Building Fund” contributions. I encourage everyone (if you have not already done so) to contribute financially (in full or in installments) as soon as possible to this building project by choosing one of the following tiers:

1) $10,000.00 or more
2) $5,000.00 to $9,999.00
3) $1,000.00 to $4,999.00
4) $500.00 to $999.00
5) Below $500.00

A BIBLICAL RECAPITULATION

Christians are in the business of “Caring One For Another” (1 Cor. 12:25-27). Moreover, “What Should We Do When God Blesses Us Financially?” Instead of raising our standard of living, we should raise our standard of giving when God blesses us financially. God blesses us abundantly when we give according to His will (Mal. 3:8-10; Lk. 6:38).

May God bless and sustain each of us.

Your Beloved Servant In Christ,

Dr. Kevin B. Hall, Pastor
