Compelled: to drive or urge forcefully or irresistibly.

Rom 1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus.

Jesus served Paul and Paul was determined to serve his Lord.

Doulos: Servant, be translated “slave”.
Contrast: The state of being strikingly different from something else.

Paul is a Servant to the core.

1. Serve Through Prayer
Romans 1:9-10 (ESV)
9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.

God’s impact on his life compels him to stand in the gap for others
2. Serve Through Pouring

Romans 1:11-13 (ESV)
11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.

Vs. 11: There are some things you’ll never receive alone.
Vs. 12: The mutual encouragement of faith
-When you serve you’re served, when you bless you’re blessed
3. Serve Through Purpose

Romans 1:14-16 (ESV)
14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the fool-ish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

-The Obligation of God's Calling Compels Us to Reach Out to Others.
-The Obligation extends to all men without partiality.
-No one escapes the goodness of the Gospel
Paul makes three strong personal statements about his passion to preach the gospel inRome:

Romans 1:14-16 (ESV)
14 I amunder obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel...

vs14“I am bound ...” (“under obligation”)
-Purpose binds you

vs 15 “I am ... eager ...”
-Purpose inspires you

vs 16 “I am not ashamed ...”
-Purpose gives you something worth believing in.
The Gospel is the Revelation of God’s Righteousness

Romans 1:16-17 (ESV)
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

1. The gospel is a debt to the world (vs 14–15)
2. The gospel is God’s power for salvation (vs 16)
3. The gospel reveals God’s righteousness (vs 17

Within the Gospel the Righteousness of God is revealed:

The Gospel (Good News): Life, Death , Ressurection & the 2nd Coming of Jesus
Romans 1:17 (ESV)
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
1. Unrighteousness
-I won’t accept God’s provision to be made right before a holy God.
2. Self Righteousness
-I can provide everything I need to be made right before a holy God.
3. Righteousness
-I receive what God has given so that I might be right before a holy God.
