WORD POWER: Blessed (Makarios)- a condition in which one is Extremely Happy, supremely blessed.

To Mourn (pentheo)- to “to experience deep grief.”

INTRO: The 3 Forms of Mourning

- There is a Sinful Mourning
"The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning,10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'11 And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: Rev. 18:9-11

There is a Natural Mourning. Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. 34 And He said, “Where have you laid him?”They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”35 Jesus wept.36 Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” John 11:33-36

- There is a Gracious Mourning
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:7-10

ANALYSIS/APPLICATION: SO….What Does Spiritual Mourning Look Like?

Moved by Compassion “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. Mark 1:40-42

Offended by wickedness.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”1 Sam 15:23

Upholds Gods Honor
Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6

Repentant in Nature
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.Isaiah 51:17

Near to the Lord
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.1 Cor 15:55-58
