INTRO: The Sermon on the Mount
- The Question Inherent in the Sermon: Who are the Saved?
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”Matt 7:21

- The Occasion of the Sermon: “seeing the multitudes”

- The Place of the Sermon: “a mountain” and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

WORD POWER: Beatitude (beatitudo), meaning “blessedness.

ANALYSIS/APPLICATION: The Character of Kingdom Citizens, Poor in Spirit!

1. The Foundational Character Quality of Kingdom Citizens is a Broken and Contrite Spirit!

- They recognize that if Weighed in the Balance of Gods judgment, they would come up Wanting! Dan 5:27

- They Confess their own sad deficiencies. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

- They receive and remember Gods Forgiveness and Redemption.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah 5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah 6 For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. 7 You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. 9 Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. 10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. 11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Psalm 32:1-7

2. The Blessing of the Poor in Spirit.
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”Matthew 3:1

- Only the Poor in Spirit Value the Kingdom.

- Only the Poor in Spirit receive the Blessing of the Kingdom!
Things present or things to come. 1 Cor 3:22

To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. Rev 3:21
