GOD’S VALENTINES WISH

John 8:28,29

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Jesus spoke about:

A. The Communication of the Father – vs. 28 …but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

B. The Commission of the Father – vs. 29 …he that sent me

C. The Company of the Father – vs. 29 … is with me: the Father hath not left me alone

D. The Concerns of the Father – vs. 29 …those things that please him.

· God takes pleasure in His Son.

Mark 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Colossians 1:18,19

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

· God takes pleasure in His People.

Psalms 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people:

Psalms 147:11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

· God takes pleasure in the Prosperity of His People.

Psalms 35:27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

· God takes pleasure in Working in His People.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

· God takes pleasure in Calling men to Preach.

Galatians 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,

· God takes pleasure in Saving the Lost through Preaching.

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

· God takes pleasure in Setting Members in the Body

1 Corinthians 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

I. The Directive to Please Him

A. The Example

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

B. The Expectation – when God called us to be soldiers, it is simply understood that we seek to please Him.

2 Timothy 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

C. The Exception – The Bible is clear; we cannot please God without faith.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

II. The Deeds that Please Him

Like Jesus, we should strive to please the Lord in all we do.

There are several verses of Scripture that tell us how we can please the Lord with our life.

A. Please Him with our Walk

Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

B. Please Him by Sharing the Gospel

1 Thessalonians 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

C. Please Him by Obeying your Parents

Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

D. Please Him by Magnifying and Praising His Name

Psalm 69:30,31

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

Hebrews 13:15,16

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

III. The Dividends of Pleasing Him

A. Peace is Achieved

Proverbs 16:7 When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

B. Prayers are Answered

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
