Introduction:
Ephesians 2:19-22 NASB

19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
We have a solid foundation. (v. 20)

Jesus the Cornerstone.
Isaiah 28:16-17 NASB

16 Therefore thus says the Lord God,
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone,
A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.
He who believes in it will not be disturbed.
17 “I will make justice the measuring line
And righteousness the level;
Apostles.
Prophets:

- Exhortation. 1 Cor. 14:3

- Conviction of sin. 1 Cor. 14:24-25

We are being fitted together. (v. 21)
We are the material for God’s new temple.
1 Peter 2:5

The new temple is a mosaic.
We form a holy temple where God dwells. (v. 22)

The Old Testament temple was where God’s Spirit resided.

The Old Testament temple was a place of ceremony and worship.
The new temple:

Our foundation is Jesus.

We are being fitted together and transformed.

We are unfinished.

We are God’s home.

Prayer Requests:

Group Discussion: What is your favorite type of architecture?

Read aloud: Ephesians 2:19-22

1. v. 20 “having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone,” What does it look like to have Christ as your foundation? When was a time your foundation was being tested?

2. The stone temple is given as a picture of how the church exists. This temple is a complex mosaic not a simple uniformed structure. What is the difference between unity and uniformity? Have you been in a culture of uniformity? What did Jesus teach?

3. The temple is unfinished and growing. Who are you praying for to receive salvation and be added to the God’s always expanding temple?

4. God dwells in His temple, His church. Do you see yourself as God’s home? Do we treat God as the owner of our lives or just the visitor? How does God at home in our souls make us Holy?

5. In the “One” series we have talked about the different metaphors for the church. One Body, One Kingdom, One Family, One-Another, and One Temple. Which one do you relate with the most and why? Why do we see a variety of metaphors for the church in the Bible?
