hey
21 Days of Prayer & Fasting
January 14 – February 3

Word for 2024:
CLARITY
Opening Thoughts:
- “You are what you repeatedly do.” - Aristotle
- “You form your habits and your habits form you.” - John Dryden
- “Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.” – Abraham Lincoln

(Hebrews 12:11) No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening – it’s painful. But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.” (NLT)

(Romans 7:15, 18-19) “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” I want to do what is right, but I can’t.I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. (NLT)
1) Confusion

Confusion comes from the right desires but the wrong actions.

(Romans 7:20-21) But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. (NLT)
2) Frustration

(Colossians 2:13-15) You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross. (NLT)

(1 John 1:8) If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

(Galatians 5:16-17) So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. (NLT)
(Galatians 5:19-21) When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” (NLT)

(Romans 7:22-24) I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! (NLT)
3) Discouragement

(Romans 7:24-25) Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. (NLT)

The answer is a person, not a principle.

(Galatians 5:22-25) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
1) Invite the Holy Spirit to fill me.

(Ephesians 5:18) “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”
2) Invite the Holy Spirit to show me.

(John 16:8) “When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:”
3) Invite the Holy Spirit to change me.

(Psalm 51:10-11) Create in me a pure heart, O God,and renew a steadfast spirit within me.11 Do not cast me from your presenceor take your Holy Spirit from me.

(1 Thessalonians 9:19,23) Do not quench the Spirit’s fire … 23 May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
