What did Jesus pray for us?
“that all of them may be one”
John 17:21

John 17:21
This is how oneness is possible:
“I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one
as we are one.”
John 17:22
“I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one
as we are one.”
John 17:22
Why does our oneness matter so much?
“May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”
John 17:23b
“May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”
John 17:23b
How much does God love the unbelieving world?
Just as much as He loves the Son
John 17:23b
Just as much as He loves the Son
John 17:23b
When we don’t have oneness what do we have?
Division
Isolation
Indifference

Who else is Jesus praying for?
“so that the world may believe…” 17:21
“to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.” 17:23
“though the world does not know You…” 17:25

THE BOTTOM LINE:
God's heart is for His people. He clearly loves us. Jesus is with us. More than that, He is in us. He has given His glory to us. His longing is for our unity, which fills us with joy and communicates God's life-changing love to the world, leading more and more people to faith in Jesus.
What can each of us do to fight for oneness in our relationships?
- Don’t let your offenses SIMMER.
- Accept the reality that everyone is IN PROCESS.
- Choose a POSTURE OF HUMILITY.

Jesus’ parting wish is that we would be ONE.
Next Steps:
- Confess to God ways I have been a hindrance to oneness in my family or other relationships.
- Identify one area or relationship in my life where I can and will (with God’s help) make a targeted effort toward oneness.
- Complete the “Paul’s Prayer Request” handout, circling 3 requests I would like Cornerstone’s pastors & deacons to be praying for me.
