Jesus commends the church in Ephesus for 5 things.
Working hard.
Persevering – patiently enduring.
Not tolerating evil people.
Testing those who claim to be Apostles but are not.
Suffering without quitting – enduring many hardships and not giving up.

Would our church and us personally be commended for doing the same things Jesus commended the Church in Ephesus for?

Have we forsaken our first love of Jesus? Have we forgotten what He has done for us, and they joy we had when we gave our lives to Him?

It doesn’t matter how much good we think we are doing, if we don’t have the right heart or motives or love for Jesus, then it is all for nothing and won’t matter in the end.

Jesus gives us clear guidance and direction. We simply have to be willing to listen to Him and follow Him.

Remember that God’s approval is infinitely more important than the world’s.

Use God’s Word to set the standards for right and wrong, not what people around you and society at large propose.

When we knowingly take part in sinful behavior, we may make excuses to justify what we are doing. We might say that it really isn’t as bad as it seems, or that it won’t really hurt our faith, or that we can just confess it later. Christ has strong words for those who look for excuses to sin. – Life Application Study Bible notes on Revelation 2:6

We can be kind to others without compromising what God defines as true or good.
