Question #1: What is the difference between ABSOLUTE and RELATIVE truth?

Definition of ABSOLUTE Truth: This truth is a statement that is true at all times and in all places. It is something that is always true no matter what the circumstances.
Definition of RELATIVE Truth: This so-called truth is belief that truth changes based on the individual’s understanding of it. There are no absolutes with relative truth, and what may be true for one person may not be true for another.
Tolerance once meant that we recognized people’s rights to have different beliefs or practices. Today, tolerance means that we accept the differing views of other people.

People who deny absolute truth will often say that it’s alright to believe WHATEVER you want as long as you do not try to IMPOSE your belief on others.

With their own statement they’re setting up a STANDARD of behavior in which they insist others follow which means they’re immediately VIOLATING the very thing they claim to uphold.

When people REJECT absolute truth, they’re really rejecting GOD and any accountability or authority in their LIVES.
Question #2: Why does the DENIAL of absolute truth lead to things like the theory of EVOLUTION?

If everything has evolved, then there’s no real MEANING, no real PURPOSE and no real right or wrong.

If people will BELIEVE a lie like relative truth, it’s obvious that evolution is soon to follow in their thinking.
Since God created this world, His qualities of eternal POWER and divine NATURE have been known and clearly seen. Mankind is without excuse.

Without absolutes there would be nothing to STUDY.

Religion is another PROOF that mankind is more than some ANIMAL. It’s proof that there is a God of the universe and great lover of mankind and that people want to KNOW God.

The existence of so many religions is NOT an argument against the One and True God. It’s the proof that so many reject the One and True God.

Question #3: How can a LOVING God SEND someone to hell?

First, we ought not PRESUME that God allowing people to go to hell is an unloving ACT on His part.

If men and women decide that God is somehow wrong to allow people to send themselves to hell because they’ve refused to receive the precious gift of Jesus, His redeeming blood to cleanse them & put them in right standing with God…then we set ourselves up to be God’s judge and jury and put our standard of right and wrong above God.

When people do this, many times they close the door to a deeper understanding of God who loves and who is love and always just, always right, always true and has grace and mercy.

Second, we ought not PRESUME that God is SENDING anyone to hell.

Talk About It

Discussion Questions:
1. In your life, would you say that you’ve more believed in absolute truth or relative truth? Why?
2. How does absolute truth end up being a much better way to approach life, relationships (with God and other people) and eternity?
3. Would you say that in some kind of weird way that it takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does creation? If so, why?
4. We know that God really doesn’t send anyone to hell. How can you explain that as it relates to the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Next Step:
How could this lesson help you in sharing your faith to someone? Will you be available to the leading of the Holy Spirit to share the gospel with someone?
