What you do every day matters more than what you say on New Year's Day.
Everyday decisions eventually determine your direction.
Develop Spiritual Disciplines
Prayer - Luke 5:16 (NLT) But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.
Bible Reading - Psalm 119:105 (NLT) Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
Consistent Worship - Hebrews 10:25 (NLT) And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Develop Accountable Relationships - Ecclesiastes 4:9 - 10, 12 (NLT) Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Dig Deeper:
1. Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution? If so, were you able to stick with it? Why or why not?
2. Why do people make resolutions even though they are not often fulfilled?
3. Read Matthew 6:33. What does it mean to “seek the Kingdom of God above all else”? What things are included in the “all else” category?
4. Look up synonyms to righteous. What words stand out to you the most? What words are not included? Why?
5. Discuss this phrase – Change is dynamic, not static. Referring back to Matthew 6:33, where does change begin?
6. Read Ephesians 5:15-17. How do we make the most of our time? How can we determine what the Lord’s will is?
7. Have you ever known someone who walked out Ephesians 5:15-17 well? Describe that person.
8. How do everyday decisions determine our direction?
9. What everyday decisions do you make currently that you want to keep? What about ones that you would like to change?
10. What holds us back from making changes to our everyday decisions? How can you begin today?

Live It Out:

Instead of resolutions, focus this year on Matthew 6:33: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Develop and/or continue the spiritual disciplines of prayer, reading the bible, consistent worship, and accountable relationships.
