John 3:16 (ESV) - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

This one verse declares three really incredible truths.
1. God so loved the world.
2. He gave His only Son.

John 3:17 (ESV) - For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 3:18 (ESV) - Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Romans 5:16–18 (ESV) - And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. 17For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. 18Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.

Romans 8:1 (ESV) - There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Fulfilled prophecy teaches you that God loves you!
Prophecy – The Messiah would be born of a virgin.

Matthew 1:18–25 (ESV) - Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). 24When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
Isaiah 7:14 (ESV) - 14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
The testimony, according to the Scriptures, of this virgin birth is absolutely miraculous and is meant to give hope and life.
3. There is a response to this truth, followed by a result.

John 3:16 (ESV) - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Discussion Questions

3. What specific fears did the angel address in appearing to Joseph?
4. How does our desire for acceptance or approval keep us from doing the right thing?
5. Discuss your response to Jesus born of a virgin and what this teaches us about the power of God?
6. God chose to send His Son, Jesus, to take on human flesh, live among us, and die on our behalf. What does this truth teach you about God’s love for you?
